Surely our intake of units should be determined by our size rather than our sex? I don't consider myself to be average!

As far as I understand it; the number of units any one person can safely drink does vary according to individual factors such as height, age etc. However the recommended limits are aimed at providing a basic guide based on an average man or woman. Most men are bigger than most women. Also men and women's bodies are different in their capacity to process alcohol.

it's been suggested that wine, beer and spirits are sold in pubs by the unit. How ridiculous would that be? The pricing for units would vary from drink to drink and what about soft drinks or shandy?
