I've done the assessment on here and I am at high risk of affecting my health. I've known this for a while but no one ever takes it seriously when I say anything. I tried AA once but really wasn't me at all. The people there had been drinking 24-7. I can function daily without drinking as soon as I wake up. It's an evening habit and no one would know I drink so heavily. Glad this site is here. Hopefully the ADS phone line will be able to help.

Good comment Leila. It's strange how people think that you have to be 24-7 as you describe, before they think it's serious. Like you I'm just stuck into an evening habit - I don't particularly hammer it at weekends either - it's just a regular thing every night - what I thought was 'steady' added up to about 70 units a week. I've managed to cut it back to 50 just by making sure I know how many units I have every night and wrting it into my diary - a paper one - not the online one here :-) I can strongly recommend just 'counting the units' as a first step. Good luck and keep posting Leila - the site needs people like you.

Just done the on line assessment and for the first time I filled the form in correctly! 74 units per week! I knew what the results would say but don't know what to do? Like you I only drink in the evening and try and miss at least 3-4 nights per week. At 44 my drinking is steadilly getting worse. I liken drinking to a thermonmeter? I have to have so much to get satisfaction or nothing at all ( above a certain level). One bottle of wine isn't sufficient anymore, I NEED 2! I hate to share too! I dread going out now as I am worried about embarrassing myself. I used to think it would be easy not to drink but because of lifes problems it seems a cheep option to mask those feelings a few or more times a week. What the answear is " I don't know anymore"? I've tried everthing, you say it I've done it!? If ANYONE has any idea's that could help me I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks in anticipaton

PS Cheers Just having my Saturday bottle of red! Its the first so not too difficult to write this!
