Meet Becky...
Becky is 40 years old, single and works full time in recruitment. She works in Manchester and lives in Bolton.
How much does Becky drink every week?
Becky drinks most nights and will generally have between 3 and 4 medium glasses of red wine - that’s a total of up to 8 units a night and a staggering 56 units over a typical week. Translated into calories that’s 3,332 calories a week, which is the equivalent of having a standard portion of fish and chips from the chippy three times a week.
Is Becky over the recommended levels?
Becky drinks 4 times the recommended limit for women each week, this is putting her health at considerable risk not to mention her general wellbeing and other consequences of binge drinking which she may not be aware of yet.
Problems Becky has recently had:
Becky often wakes up in the morning unsure of how and when she went to bed. She has had several arguments in bars with strangers and is unsure of how they started but has been thrown out on several occasions. Generally she feels groggy at work and is unable to perform some tasks effectively during the day.
What is Becky going to do?
Although she doesn’t want to give up drinking totally, Becky would like to cut down to a level she feels is reasonable and is her personal best.
"If I can cut down a little and maybe not have a drink on one or two nights then that would make a big difference to me"
